The Seadog Principal

What is a Seadog?

For several generations now, students and staff at various educational spots in the Beaufort area have proudly called themselves the Seadogs.  We wear tee shirts, hats, pins and other items festooned with images of our friendly Seadog.  I started wondering what the name really meant and how we came to use it in Beaufort.  I learned this about the meaning:

“…a seadog is a very experienced sailor.  He knows how to navigate through difficult waters and can always get his boat through safely.”

Now I think about this meaning as it relates to Beaufort Elementary School.  Our adult staff members are the “experienced sailors (or in this case educators) and we have the skills to help our young seadogs make their way through the world of school.  We know that children will sometimes encounter “…difficult waters…” but that is okay.  We “old seadogs” are here to help our kids make it through safely.  We are working hard to give all of our kids everything they need to be successful.  You can count on us!
